REFCOM Elite Supplier Scheme Wins Initiative of the Year

Friday, July 10, 2020

The REFCOM Elite Supplier scheme wins the Initiative of the Year award at this year’s ACR News Awards.

At what was probably the most unusual industry awards ceremony most have ever attended, key figures in the sector pulled up a chair to their computer screen and logged in to watch the awards in a COVID-19 safe, virtual online environment.

REFCOM were delighted to pick up the accolade for Industry Initiative of the Year with their new REFCOM Elite Supplier scheme.

The scheme was created after Karl Richardson of Logicool Air Conditioning lobbied REFCOM for stronger enforcement of F-GAS Regulations in relation to supplier rules. It would result in levelling the playing field for suppliers and help ensure correct application of the rules and stop others ignoring them in a poorly policed sector of the regulations.

The idea was to develop a supplier scheme based around the exiting REFCOM Elite scheme. It would be a voluntary code of conduct for the supply chain to sign up to and follow to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and the sector as a whole.

In response, REFCOM created a Supplier audit for the current Elite scheme and set up a registration system on the REFCOM website to allow suppliers to sign up via the online portal that all REFCOM members use.

The scheme has only been live for a few months but already three of the largest AC manufacturers (Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu General) have signed up. On the wholesaler/distributor side, Logicool Air Conditioning, TF Solutions (part of BSS Group) and Wolseley have signed up.

Head of REFCOM, Graeme Fox said of the win, “It is hoped that the award will help REFCOM further promote scheme, continuing to support best practice in the industry”.
