New appointment for REFCOM

Monday, November 2, 2020

REFCOM has appointed Roger Smith as its new Certification Assessor for the REFCOM, REFCOM Elite and REFCOM Elite Supplier schemes.

REFCOM is the UK’s leading register for F-Gas compliant companies. Any UK business that installs or services air conditioning, refrigeration or heat pump equipment must be accredited by a recognised scheme.

Roger Smith is a Member of the Institute of Refrigeration and has served over 40 years in the refrigeration industry. He has worked in installation, servicing and maintenance of refrigeration equipment across a number of sectors. Roger also spent more than a decade as a technical advisor and training manager on F-Gas regulations and refrigerant handling.

He says: “I am very pleased to join REFCOM at this time and to be able to bring my years of experience to support members. I look forward to helping ensure that our members are compliant with the requirements for our sector.”

Rachel Davidson, Director of Certification says: “Roger’s appointment adds additional depth to the technical guidance REFCOM will be able to offer and strengthens the REFCOM audit team.”

In his role at REFCOM, Roger will assess member businesses and ensure that their engineers are suitably qualified to carry out work with refrigerants. He will also provide advice, including answering technical queries.

Businesses who hold REFCOM certification are regularly audited to ensure they are following procedures required by the regulations. Membership of the REFCOM Elite Supplier scheme demonstrates that a manufacturer, distributor or wholesaler has signed up to, and been assessed against, a voluntary code of conduct.

REFCOM has been operating an Elite voluntary best practice company registration scheme since 1994. In 2009, the then Secretary of State for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) appointed REFCOM to operate a certification body under the new stationary equipment provisions of the F Gas Regulations.

REFCOM offers a number of benefits to members beyond listing on its F Gas Register, such as access to industry advisers and tracking software for F Gas compliance.
